Car
There are two motorways which connect Bilbao with its borders and beyond. The A-8 connects France (via Irún) with Bilbao in one-and-half hours. This motorway links Bilbao with the southwestern French network, Bordeaux and Paris, and with the southern network, Toulouse and Montpellier.

The A-68 runs via the Ebro valley, connecting Bilbao and Barcelona, and links with the A-7 towards the mediterranean coast. The A-7 links, through the Cervere border, with the central Europe networks. Cities like Lyon, Geneva, Milan and Genoa are less than 1 days drive away.

Bilbao also connects directly through the A-68 with Burgos in 1.5 hours, with Valladolid in 2.5 hours by the Castilla motor route, and with Madrid in less than 4 hours via the North motor route.

Parking your car
Parking space is scarce in the city, especially during the week. There are two options: car parks, or coin-operated street parking. This latter option is called OTA, and works in the following way: all street parking is marked with either blue or green dash lines. The green areas allow 5 hours of continuous parking, and the blue ones, 2 hours.

OTA hours
Monday to Saturday, 9 to 13,30 h and from 15 to 20 h.

Parking meters
The fee is payable at these pod-shaped machines, located in every block where parking is allowed. You must enter your license plate number, the coins as well as the amount of time chosen.

Parking card
A pre-paid card is available from the OTA offices (Pérez Galdós, 5), and will provide the necessary information. The actual card is free, and can be charged at any parking meter. Once charged, it is inserted into the meter and the user selects the amount of parking time required.

They are all open 24 hours, except the one in El Corte Inglés, open during shopping hours. Prices range from about 0,50 € for the first 30 minutes to about 13 € for a full day
