Climate
Bilbao is a located in a temperate area. Its climate is the oceanic humid type, with a warm ocean stream, and mild temperatures throughout the year. Rain is more common in spring and autumn, with moderate winters and fairly mild summers. The average temperature is 20 °C in summer and 8 °C in winter.


Spring
Spring can be as wet as winter but the days are much brighter. May can have up to twice as many sunny days as January. April is the wettest month.

Summer
Starting with a mild June, temperatures rise progressively and climax in mid August. Given the proximity to the sea, the odd shower or sudden drop of temperatures is relatively common.

Autumn
September is warmer and less cloudy than June, and is considered an “almost” Summer month. Real autumn starts with October´s cold temperaturas which, combined with the still warm sea surface, can generate plenty of rain.

Winter
Bilbao´s winter days can change rapidly from rainy to clear but chilly ones. It hardly ever snows in the city itself, but it is sometimes possible to see the mountains that surround it covered in snow.
