In-land northern Spain
Bilbao´s location makes it an ideal base for visiting the inland regions, due to its excellent communications. The near-by Pyrenees, a true nature´s paradise, offers a wealth of opportunities: skiing in winter, or rafting, climbing, trekking and camping the rest of the year. Equally interesting is the medieval Camino de Santiago that, with a wealth of cathedrals and other historical buildings to visit, run from the western Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela. The Camino has a good network of lodging facilities, whether you are “doing the Camino” by horse, bicycle or by foot.

Also, the Rioja wine region and its famous bodegas, the world-reknown Atapuerca prehistorical settlement, and the Monasteries of Rioja and Navarra, are some of the excursions that can be done from Bilbao in a single day
