The coast
Bilbao is a port city, with the river acting as its connection with the sea. The Bizkaia coast runs from the village of Ondarroa in the east to Punta Covarón in the west. Near Bilbao, long and sandy beaches are interspersed with coves, and sharp cliffs with green fields atop. The beaches, specially those in Uribe-Kosta, are busy all year round; even in winter, it is not unusual to see large numbers of surfers in them. Visitors must be aware of the continuous shift of the coastal line produced by the tides.

In the Bizkaia coast, visitors will discover many charming towns and villages. To many of them, the sea – and fishing in particular – is still their main industry. Villages like Ondarroa, Lekeitio, Elantxobe, Mundaka, or Bermeo will surprise the visitor for their authenticity and extraordinary locations, that make the Cantabrian sea even more captivating.
