Gastronomy fairs and food markets

In Bilbao
Several fairs and markets are held throughout the year. This is an ideal time to taste txakolí, talo (corn bread) with chorizo, cider, basque tart, and other local farm produce like red onions, leeks, potatoes, eggs, etc. Without a doubt, the most important is the Santo Tomás fair, held every year on the 21st of December. Unfortunately the popular pig raffle was stopped in 2004. The Arenal, Plaza Nueva and the Old Town areas have a very exciting atmosphere on this day.
