A round of “pintxos”
Basque cuisine can be enjoyed without actually sitting down at a table.
Before lunch and dinner time, bars offer a selection of pintxos or “banderillas”,
tiny portions of food that can range from the humble “gilda” (green
chili, anchovy, and olive), to the most elaborate combinations. Going out to
eat pintxos is actually a way of socializing. Groups of friends wil meet up
to go from one bar to the next, tasting the different pintxos, accompanied with
either a glass of Txakolí, a “zurito” (small glass of beer),
or a “txikito” (small glass of wine). Thus this experience is also
known as “txikiteo”.
